Ways to Winterize Your Beard: 7 Steps to Keep Your Beard Style on Point
The winter season brings lots of breathtaking views, snow days lounging on the couch, and the opportunity to build the best snow fort of all time. It also brings blustery winds and cold, dry air that are sure to put a damper on your plan to grow a majestic beard. The good news? This can be avoided!
Proper beard care is essential year round, but it is especially crucial during the winter months. This means a change in routine, and maybe even your choices of daily, go-to products.
Listed below are 7 ways to “winterize” your beard and keep the beard game going strong:
1. Wash less
While it may seem more practical to wash your beard morning and night, the winter months ARE NOT the time to overdo it. Cut back on washing with soap based products to a max of 2-3 times per week. On non-wash days, try using Apple Cider Vinegar or any other organic, soap free substitute.
2. Moisturize
Your skin and beard are a team. They work together to create the look you wish to achieve, so pay close attention to the skin beneath your beard. Just because it’s covered doesn’t mean it should be ignored. Oil for your beard should be formulated with all-natural ingredients and used daily for optimal results.
3. Protect
Protect your skin with a trusted, all-natural beard balm. Any product containing fragrance oil is a BIG no-no. Fragrances WILL, and I repeat, WILL dry your skin, which will inevitably dry out your beard. To give your beard a desirable scent, use products with essential oils rather than fragrance.
4. Exfoliate
If you want to really dig deep when it comes to caring for your beard, (and why wouldn’t you?) be sure to exfoliate and detoxify the skin beneath it. Raw, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar isn’t just a cleanser, but also a great exfoliant. You can add some coffee grounds, chia seeds, or even sugar to the mix if you want to get rid of all the dead skin buildup that’s more than likely clogging up your pores.
Clogged pores = less room for growth. Grow the beard.
5. Brush It
Brushing your beard is a MUST. You don’t want to walk out of the house looking like a sloppy, hot mess. More importantly, brushing your beard will evenly distribute all of those glorious products mentioned above. This is a crucial step in Beard Styling 101. Don’t skip it.
6. Groom Daily, Morning and Night
Finally, repeat the steps listed above (aside from washing) morning and night.
It may seem like an incredibly time consuming commitment to make, but the
steps are simple AND necessary. I promise, it’s an extra 10 minutes max. If you stay committed, you’ll be thankful you put in the work.
